As the 2023 college football season approaches, the Boise State Broncos are poised to make another run at a Mountain West Conference championship. And once again, their explosive offense will be fueled by a talented running back.
The Broncos have a long and storied tradition of producing great running backs, dating back to the days of Brock Forsey and Ian Johnson. In recent years, players like Jay Ajayi, Jeremy McNichols, Alexander Mattison, Derrick Gore, and George Holani have all rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season.
This year's running back corps is led by Ashton Jeanty, a 6-foot, 200-pound junior who rushed for 550 yards and six touchdowns last season. Jeanty is a powerful runner with excellent vision and balance. He is also a threat to catch passes out of the backfield.
Behind Jeanty is a trio of talented sophomores: Andrew Van Buren, Caleb Biggers, and Robert Mahone. Van Buren is a shifty runner with breakaway speed. Biggers is a physical runner who can punish defenders. Mahone is a versatile athlete who can also play wide receiver.
The Broncos' running backs will be running behind an experienced offensive line anchored by senior center Garrett Larson. Larson is a Rimington Trophy candidate and one of the best centers in the country. He will be joined by tackles Ben Dooley and Will Farrar, guards Eric Quevedo and Dontae Bull, and tight end Tyler Elam.
With a talented running back corps and an experienced offensive line, the Broncos' offense is expected to be one of the most explosive in the country. And if they can stay healthy, they have the potential to make a deep run into the playoffs.
