The Ducks' defense was also very good, allowing just 17.2 points per game. The defense was led by defensive end Dion Jordan, who had 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Jordan was a first-team All-American and was selected third overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2013 NFL Draft.
In addition to Jordan, the Ducks had a number of other defensive stars, including linebacker Kiko Alonso, cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, and safety Avery Patterson. Alonso led the team with 115 tackles, while Ekpre-Olomu had five interceptions and Patterson had four interceptions.
