For over a century and a half, the Atlantic City Fire Department (ACFD) has stood as a beacon of hope and protection for the city's residents and visitors. With a proud history dating back to 1869, the ACFD has witnessed the city's evolution from a humble seaside resort to a bustling metropolis and a renowned entertainment destination.
The ACFD is staffed by a diverse and dedicated team of over 200 firefighters who are trained to respond to a wide range of emergencies, from structural fires and medical emergencies to hazardous materials incidents and natural disasters. These firefighters work tirelessly around the clock, protecting the lives and property of the city's citizens.
The ACFD responds to an average of over 10,000 calls for help each year. These calls cover a wide range of incidents, including:
The ACFD's budget of approximately $25 million is used to cover a wide range of expenses, including:
1. Fire has no respect for property lines… so keep your lawn hydrated!
Fire is a dangerous and unpredictable force that can easily spread from one property to another.
A fire hydrant is a must have in your family's safety plan!
Stay hydrated and fight back against fires that might threaten your home.
2. Get low and go under the mattress
Fire thrives on oxygen. Smoke is dangerous because it travels to areas that you cannot see.
Stay low beneath the smoke and keep your presence below the mattress.
3. When in doubt, throw it OUT!
Cords, batteries, and florescent bulbs… these can all be replaced with ease!
Unplug all electronics including cell phones during thunderstorms and do not re-connect until 30 minutes after the storm passes.
4. Close before you doze
Keep doors closed as much as possible, especially at night.
A closed door can help contain a fire in one room and give firefighters a chance to rescue you.
5. Practice makes perfect.
Be ready and know what to do when that smoke alarm sounds.
Create and practice a home escape plan with your family.
