Evacuations Ordered, Homes Destroyed
The Camp Fire, which ignited on Thursday afternoon, has forced the evacuation of the entire town of Paradise, as well as several surrounding communities. Evacuation centers have been established in nearby Chico and Oroville.
"We have people who have lost everything," said Paradise Mayor Jody Jones. "We have people who are trying to find their loved ones. We have people who are trying to figure out where they're going to go next."
Fire Continues to Spread Rapidly
The Camp Fire is being fueled by high winds and dry conditions, and it is spreading rapidly. As of Friday morning, the fire had consumed over 70,000 acres, and it was only 5% contained.
"This is a devastating fire," said Cal Fire Director Ken Pimlott. "We are doing everything we can to fight it, but it is a very dangerous situation."
Residents Urged to Evacuate
Officials are urging all residents in the affected areas to evacuate immediately.
"Do not wait until it is too late," said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea. "If you are in an evacuation zone, you need to leave now."
