570,000 Primary 1 Registrations Expected for 2023

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that it expects around 570,000 Primary 1 registrations for the 2023 school year. This represents a slight increase from the 565,000 registrations received in 2022.

Registration Process

Parents can register their children for Primary 1 online via the MOE's website from 1st July to 31st August 2023. They will need to provide the child's birth certificate, passport-sized photograph, and other relevant documents.

Once the registration is complete, parents will receive a confirmation email. They will then need to submit the original documents to their chosen primary school by 30th September 2023.

Phases of Registration

The Primary 1 registration process is divided into three phases:

  1. Phase 1 (27th June - 31st August): Open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents with children born between 2nd January 2018 and 1st January 2019.
  2. Phase 2A1 (1st August - 6th August): Open to Singapore citizens with children attending a MOE kindergarten.
  3. Phase 2A2 (8th August - 10th August): Open to Singapore citizens with children attending a MOE kindergarten and siblings in the same primary school.
  4. Phase 2B (15th August - 17th August): Open to Singapore citizens with children attending a government-funded childcare centre.
  5. Phase 2C (19th August - 21st August): Open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
  6. Phase 2C Supplementary (22nd August - 24th August): Open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents who have applied under Phase 2C but were unsuccessful.
  7. Phase 3 (29th August - 31st August): Open to all remaining applicants, including non-Singapore citizens and non-permanent residents.

Choice of Schools

Parents can choose up to six primary schools for their child. They can indicate their top three choices in the online application form.

  • Priority for children with siblings in the same primary school
  • Proximity to the child's home address
  • Parents' choice of schools
  • Availability of places in the schools
