The Protective Security Command (ProCom) is a unit of the Australian Army responsible for the protection of Defence personnel, property, and information. ProCom was formed in 2002 and is headquartered at Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney. The unit is made up of three regular battalions and one reserve battalion.
Mowbray Camp was a military base located in Launceston, Tasmania. The camp was established in 1914 and was used as a training base for Australian troops during the First World War. After the war, the camp was used as a barracks for the 12th/40th Battalion, Royal Tasmania Regiment. The camp was closed in 1997 and the land was sold to the University of Tasmania.
In 2003, ProCom moved into the former Mowbray Camp. The unit has since established a number of facilities at the camp, including a training centre, a barracks, and a logistics centre. ProCom also uses the camp for a variety of training exercises.
