The Ministry of Education (MOE) of Singapore has announced the 2023 Primary 1 (P1) Registration Exercise. This annual exercise allows parents or guardians to enrol their children in a primary school near their residence or workplace. The exercise is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are born between 2 January 2018 and 1 January 2019.

Registration Timeline

The registration exercise will be conducted in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (1-Day Registration): 1st December 2023
  • For Singapore citizens with children born between 2 January 2018 and 1 January 2019 who are currently attending MOE Kindergartens
  • Phase 2A (2-Day Registration): 12th - 13th December 2023
  • For Singapore citizens with a child born between 2 January 2018 and 1 January 2019 who are eligible for Phase 2A(1) or Phase 2A(2) priority
  • Phase 2B (2-Day Registration): 22nd - 23rd December 2023
  • For Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents with a child born between 2 January 2018 and 1 January 2019
  • Phase 2C (4-Day Registration): 9th - 12th January 2024
  • For all Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and international students

Registration Process

Parents or guardians can register their children online through the MOE's Primary 1 Registration System (P1RS) or at the registration counters of primary schools.

Online Registration:
1. Visit the P1RS website: https://p1.moe.gov.sg/
2. Create an account using your SingPass
3. Complete the online registration form and submit it

In-Person Registration:
1. Visit the registration counter of your desired primary school
2. Collect the registration form and complete it
3. Submit the completed form to the registration counter

Registration Requirements

To register your child for P1, you will need the following documents:

  • Child's birth certificate
  • Child's passport-sized photograph
  • Proof of residence or workplace (e.g., utility bill, rental agreement)
  • Proof of citizenship or permanent residency (e.g., IC, passport)

School Selection

Parents or guardians can choose up to three primary schools in order of preference. When selecting a school, they should consider the following factors:

  • Proximity to their residence or workplace
  • School's reputation and academic performance
  • School's co-curricular activities and programmes
  • School's culture and values

FAQs

1. What is the difference between Phase 2A(1) and Phase 2A(2)?
Phase 2A(1) is for Singapore citizens with children who are siblings of current students in the school. Phase 2A(2) is for Singapore citizens whose children were unsuccessful in Phase 2A(1) and who have attended a MOE Kindergarten for at least one year.

2. Can I register my child in a primary school outside of my residential area?
Yes, but your child will be offered a place only if there are vacancies remaining after all the other phases have been completed.

3. What if I miss the registration deadline?
Late applications will be accepted from 16th January 2024 onwards, but they will be subject to availability of vacancies.

4. How will I be notified of my child's placement?
You will be notified of your child's placement via email or SMS by 2nd March 2024.
