Established in 1958, the Voice of Democracy (VOD) Scholarship is a nationwide audio-essay competition open to high school students in grades 9-12. Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the competition aims to foster patriotism, strengthen democratic values, and encourage civic engagement among the nation's youth.
In 2023, the VOD Scholarship awarded over $825,000 in scholarships, including a $30,000 first prize, to exceptional students who demonstrated their understanding and appreciation of American democracy.
